Surfside Beachcomber
All the news that washes up ... and then some
Surfside Parklands
I am certain that you are all aware of the two tracts of land within Surfside
that the developer set aside for parks. One is located on the sea side and the
other on the lagoon. These lots are still deeded to the developer and since
Surfside has sold out he is willing to divest his interest in them and turn them
over to the residents of Surfside at no cost. This, of course, means that we
have to have some form of mechanism in place for him to turn them over to.
Now while many may be thinking "Home Owners Association" this may be a little
premature at this time due primarily to the small number of people currently
residing here.
Since time may be of the essence to ensure that these properties don't
become gasoline stations or saw mills, a Surfside Trust has been established
to run as a nonprofit organization. At this time the trustees are Robert
Werlwas, Dale Harshbarger and Peter Damon. While the developer has
contributed the land at no cost to the owners, there are costs associated with
the transfer, to wit, lawyers fees, Belize red tape, etc. These costs, in the
amount of $1,500BZ, have been covered by certain owners. Upon completion of
this transfer it is planned to contact all owners for donations to the Trust for
the purpose of maintenance of these lands. All such donations are of course
voluntary but those contributing will be given a hearty handshake, a pat on the
back and membership in the Emerald Shillelagh Chowder and Marching Society.
Anybody wishing to make a contribution can contact Dale at macduff@btl.net.
